Beyond Low

Last night Liz and I were downstairs - she was working on bills and I was rocking Ryan as he was sleeping. I didn't have much else to do, so I channel-surfed, and I came across a train-wreck of a show called "Intervention". I guess the show documents people who have serious drug dependency issues and how their family members and friends try to get them to seek help. The show I saw had this woman called Christy (I believe that was her name). I can't believe people would let themselves self-destruct like that. She was drinking vodka straight from the bottle, she lived in a hellhole worse than any dive I've seen in a long time, she didn't care about what she wore (if she wore anything), she was abusive to herself and others...the list goes on and on. I'm watching this show, and I was looking down at Ryan, and I hoped that my kids would never, ever get that bad. I hope I'd be strong enough to address any issues with my kids right away, rather than just pushing it aside (Christy's father enabled her by paying for her food, her rent, etc.). Everybody had to make their own path in life, but I'll try my damndest to get my kids to walk a path that's safe.
