It Wasn't an Act of God

Before people accuse me of being an insensitive turd, let me state that the Asian tsunami was a terrible incident and the loss of life is hard to imagine. That said, it wasn't an act of God. It's not a sign of the end of the world, nobody did anything to piss off the Big Eye in the sky, it's just the earth doing its thing and, unfortunately, humans were affected by its actions. And if this event is making people think the world is nearing its final days, read this to really make you worry. I remember seeing a show about La Palma island on the Discovery channel this summer, and it's one of those things that we know it's going to happen, we just don't know when. And if it does, anybody on the eastern shores of the US can pretty much kiss their ass goodbye if they can't get inland fast enough [1].

[1] Estimates are that it would take about 8 hours for the wave to move across the Atlantic, which does give some time for mass evacuations.
