"Up Through The Water"
I finished this book last weekend. I really liked "Jesus Saves" but this one wasn't as good. Steinke puts together some great analogies in her prose, but her characters seem vapid in this novel. They're just there, almost as a vehicle to the surroundings Steinke brings alive very well. So it's a mixed bag: her work bringing forth images is great, but the characters lack depth. I'd recommend reading either "Jesus Saves" or "Suicide Blonde".
I'm currently working on "The Names of the Dead", and so far I'm finding it hard to put down, so I'll probably have a positive review in a week or so.
