"Threshold", by Caitlin R. Kiernan
I finished this book a couple of weeks ago; I wish I would've written a review when I completed it. It's quite the odd novel. Basically, there seems to be some ancient evil that's lasted for millions of years, and it's a desendant of a trilobyte. Two characters become pursued by this evil in strange, bizarre ways. The book does a good job of keeping the "monsters" hidden and cloaked in shadow, but near the end of the book I felt like Kiernan didn't do enough to explain just what the hell was going on. There's also a third character who seems to come out of nowhere to help the other two characters, but at the end she comes back in a very strange way. If you like horror without the gore and you like it when a writer tends to descriptive without giving enough away, I'd recommend this book. However, I don't know if I'll read any other books for her; I just couldn't connect to the storyline.
