I Got a Bike
I biked a lot during the end of my grad school career and for a couple of years after that. I never liked the bike I had (it was a cheapo mountain bike) and a couple of years ago I got rid of it. Lately I've been wanting to start riding again, so I picked up a Trek bike (Liz got me a gift certificate to a bike store for my birthday a couple of months ago as incentive). I'm amazed at how far technology has permeated into bikes. They're so light! And even though I didn't get a top-of-the-line bike (I wasn't going to spend 5 or 10 thousand dollars on a bike) the one I got suits my needs.
I went on a 6 mile bike ride yesterday to get back into the swing of things...man, am I out of shape! But I'm not discouraged; in fact, I'm more motivated to get on that thing and ride it even more. I truly love bicycling and I hope to get back into the 50-mile-ride shape I was years ago. I don't plan on losing 60 pounds (that's what it would take to literally be the same "shape" as I was when I was 24) but I'd like to be able to do long rides.
