Haggard's Official Resignation Letter to the Church

OK, OK! I'll stop with the Haggard story with his official letter to New Life Church. But you have to read it. It is obvious that this man is gay and will do whatever he can (right now at least) to oppress it:

There is a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I’ve been warring against it all of my adult life. For extended periods of time, I would enjoy victory and rejoice in freedom. Then, from time to time, the dirt that I thought was gone would resurface, and I would find myself thinking thoughts and experiencing desires that were contrary to everything I believe and teach.

"Dirt"? "Repulsive" and "dark"? Dude, you're gay. It's OK. You think it's wrong now, but it's obvious that you like men. Please, stop lying to yourself and admit it. It will really hurt you, you wife, and your family, but it's also the truth.

Then again, it looks like Haggard is going down the road of complete repression:

Our church's overseers have required me to submit to the oversight of Dr. James Dobson, Pastor Jack Hayford, and Pastor Tommy Barnett. Those men will perform a thorough analysis of my mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical life. They will guide me through a program with the goal of healing and restoration for my life, my marriage, and my family.

Dobson?! Looks like Haggard's setting himself up now to push all of the "dirt" even farther down within yourself. But as he admitted, it's always been a part of his life. One cannot deny what one is.

I will give Haggard credit for not pushing the blame on his accusor:

Please forgive my accuser. He is revealing the deception and sensuality that was in my life. Those sins, and others, need to be dealt with harshly. So, forgive him and, actually, thank God for him. I am trusting that his actions will make me, my wife and family, and ultimately all of you, stronger. He didn’t violate you; I did.

But by his own words, he believes that this "sensuality" is a "sin" that "needs to be dealt with harshly." Wow, if every time I thought of sex with women I dealt with myself "harshly", I'd be dead by now. I know, I know, evangelical Christians usually view homosexuality as a sin. To argue that point here would be waste of time, because I don't think it is and, frankly, people should stop caring about who someone is rolling around in a bed with. But the point is, Haggard is gay, and if he keeps traveling on the road of repression, it's just going to make things worse for him.

I actually feel a bit sorry for the guy. He's obviously so brainwashed that he cannot admit to himself what he truly is. Until he does, the misery and self-hate is just going to grow and grow and grow...
