Oregon Vacation in Review
Since the details of my vacation to Oregon are already getting hazy, here's the run-down.
Wednesday morning we took a flight to Portland, waited an hour, and then puddle-jumped to Medford. My sister, her husband, and my mom were there to greet us. Overall Hayden did well on the flights, although he did have a brief fit near the end of the first flight. We drove to her place and got ourselves situated in a room in their house.
We woke up Thursday morning at 4:30 because Hayden was still on Central time (whee). Fortunately this was the last day he got up so early. We basically spent this day driving around Grants Pass and not doing any planned activites.
Friday was the Hellgate boat ride. I did this years ago; this ride didn't go as far down into the rapids, but dinner was included in the meal. The views were gorgeous, and I decided to take advantage of the "free" pitchers of beer. I didn't get drunk, but...I was feeling pretty happy! Unfortunately Liz and Hayden stayed home - with her pregnancy we didn't want to take any chances.
Saturday we did white water rafting (again, Liz and Hayden stayed home - bummer :( ). I enjoyed it, although I was expecting "The River Wild"-like rapids, and, frankly, I was never scared we were going to tip over. But it was fun to spend a few hours on the river just driving along with the occassional hard paddling to get through some rapids. Saturday night was dinner at a local steak restaurant. We've learned that if Hayden is off of his meal schedule, he gets cranky in a hurry and won't eat. Oh, well...
Sunday we went to the coast. Again, it was a long ride and I think Hayden was getting annoyed by being off of his schedule (but he did pretty good). He started to get some teeth in on this trip so that explains some of the irritability. The Pacific coast views were cool. My family gave us the night off so Liz and I went to see "X-Men: The Last Stand". All in all it was a good summer flick - I enjoyed it, so I got my money's worth (although there are definitely some stupid story lines - the whole thing between the guy who throws fire and the guy who throws ice was just idiotic).
Monday morning we flew home. Overall, Hayden did really well. He's really a good kid - I enjoyed spending so much time with him on this vacation.
I'll post pictures when I get around to it.
