More Conversion Strategeryisms

Well, I got another e-mail from "the guy" (I won't say who it is - that's not important anyway). His response to my last e-mail went down the road of trying to show just how improbable it was for life to form simply by chance via the use of huge numbers (like 10a really big number). What I found so funny is that the guy used this article as a starting point for his really-big-number argument (i.e. the earth is 5 billion years old, so that's 1017 seconds or something like that). If he would've actually used the TalkOrigins site to try and back up his argument, he would've found this article that completely demolishes it.

The way he ended his e-mail, though, was priceless. He gave me the following questions:

The man who looks at a ship and doesn't know if there was a builder is:
___ A. Intelligent
___ B. A fool
___ C. Has an ulterior motive for denying the obvious

The man who looks at our universe and doesn't know if there was a builder is:
___ A. Intelligent
___ B. A fool
___ C. Has an ulterior motive for denying the obvious

Yes, he actually had the lines in there (I guess so I could check one off?). Anyway, I don't like any of the answers - frankly, I don't care for the way the questions are phrased. But the first question is intented to set you up for the second one. It's obvious when you look at a ship that someone (or a group of people) designed it, so if you limit yourself to answers he provides, you'd have to pick either B or C. But...look! The universe is designed because he used a lot of big, frackin' numbers, so...oh. I guess I'm a fool or I have secret motives to covering up the truth.

Whatever. (Actually, I'd pick A to the second question. That's what science is all about: it doesn't assume one way or the other whether there's a supernatural force behind it all. It simply leaves questions like that unanswered and spends its time on the really fun problems).

This guy is exactly the reason I'll never return to Christianity. He's making things worse for his cause by giving me such ridiculous arguments.
