This Weekend: Mixed Emotions, but I'm Mostly Sitting on My Ass

Yesterday was a good day as I had a bunch of friends over for a Halo FragFest. I think there was about 20 people here at one time, so there was a lot of bloodshed going on in the rooms. There was trash-talking, but mostly we get together to drink beer, eat crappy food and have fun.

Today I'm not in such a good mood. I found out that friends of Liz and I are pregnant. You know, it's hard to hear that news. On the one hand, we're very happy for them (for reasons that I won't get into here) and we hope everything goes well. On the other...well, I hate to say it, but I'm jealous. I'm angry. Not at them, but at the situation Liz and I are in. Adoption is a tough process. We don't know when we'll get a kid. And to see more and more of our friends extend their family...it's getting tougher all the time. [1]

So, I've basically been sitting on my ass this weekend, either playing Halo or trying to get my thoughts and emotions together. On a somewhat bright note, I beat my current Nurburgring time on PRG2 to 6:05.850, so I'm now at 139 (which will probably change as others improve their times, of course :) ). The best thing is now I beat a racer that I usually play against, BSmooth, who is at 144. It's always fun to go into a room with him and say, "Hey, check out the Ring scoreboard. Neener, neener, NEE...NER!!!" Of course, he'll go and beat my time, and then I beat his...it's a vicious cycle. I still haven't beat another fellow PGR2 racer I game with, UnshapedSpanky (yes, gamertags can get quite interesting), who's at 125 with a 6:05.530. So now I have to figure out how to shave 0.32 seconds off my time. The funny thing is that the best time overall is by a guy named nicholas0202, who has a 5:55.684. Unbelievable - he's a whole 10 seconds faster than what I can struggle to pull out of my ass. It is a nice feeling, though, to know that I have the 139th best time in history (as of today) on the Ring at PGR2. I can't say I'm the 139th best golfer in the world ;).

[1] I will say this - having a cat that's 1/2 Siamese is a good way to prepare for crying kids as he just...does...NOT...shut...up!! Great cat, very friendly, but man, he can be annoying when he wants attention.
