"The Lake of Dead Languages," by Carol Goodman
I just finished this book last night. Overall, I thought it was a good read. It started out very slow, almost too slow for my tastes. In fact, I was about to put it away because the pace was close to glacial, but I've made it a point to always try and finish a book unless it really sucks. I'm glad I didn't put this one down, because once it started to pick up, I was hooked.
Granted, it does have its' flaws. While the book kept me more than hooked, I was a little unhappy with the ending. The antagonist's motives seemed a bit odd - I didn't buy why she did the things she did (but I don't want to say more than that). And as I mentioned before, the books takes time to get going. But it's a book I'd recommend if you're looking for interesting character development with a bit of a mystery feel to it.
