Do-Overs for Movie Sequels
I got to thinking about movie sequels - namely, the fact that Hollyweird should issue free “do-over” cards to movie franchises that had promise, but a sequel fubar’ed things up. Here are some examples:
- Terminator 3 The first one was good, and second one was just as good, if not better. But the third one just didn’t live up to the first two. Yeah, it had a great car chase and the fight scene between Arnold and that hottie TX was really cool, but I didn’t like where they went with the plot. They should’ve done the whole future war thing, and somehow got Cameron, Hamilton, and Furlong onboard. (Yes, I do know about the issues with each of these players as to why they weren’t in the third movie, but T3 really lacked without them).
- Alien3 Jeebuz, what a Charlie Foxtrot that movie was. Alien rocks, and the second one is even better. And then … Alien3 comes along and totally kills the series in its tracks. Let’s kill off everyone from the 2nd movie that lives right away and then kill off the main character at the end. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Of course, they made a fourth one, and I kind of like that one in a weird way for reasons I still can’t figure out as there’s so much stupidity in the plot.
- The Return of the King Hah! Just kidding - I was making sure you were still paying attention.
- The 2 Matrix sequels They never happened. Really, they didn’t happened. The Wachowski brothers should just reset the Matrix and redo the last two movies, because, really, they did suck.
- The first three Star Wars movies They suck. Just admit it, they’re awful. Let’s all agree to disagree and come to terms with the fact that Lucas sucks as a director and a writer.
- Blues Brothers 2000 A sequel is not needed at all. This was just a bad idea, and all knowledge of this movie’s existence should be wiped from the face of the earth.
Can you think of any others?
And then there are movies that I wish they would make a sequel for. Like “True Lies”. That may not be possible anymore as Arnold is … well, the govener of California and even if would get back into movies, he’s old. But that may make for some funny stuff if “True Lies: 2” was ever made (especially since Tom Arnold lost a ton of weight recently - could make for an interesting reversal of roles of sorts).
